The Dental Implant Process

Dental implants are a three-phase restoration process that typically takes 3-6 months from start to finish.

Phase 1: Placement
1st visit
Titanium implant posts are surgically inserted into jawbone under local anesthesia

Phase 2: Osseointegration
3-6 months
Bone heals and fuses with implant posts. Temporary tooth may be worn during this time

Phase 3: Restoration
Final visits
Custom-made ceramic crown is attached to implant post for natural-looking smile

What to Expect at Each Stage

Before Surgery
We’ll take X-rays and 3D scans to evaluate jawbone density and plan implant placement precisely. If bone density is insufficient, we may recommend bone grafting.

During Surgery
The procedure takes 30-90 minutes depending on complexity. Local anesthesia ensures you’re comfortable. You’ll feel pressure but not pain.

Recovery
Most patients return to normal activities within 1-2 weeks. Avoid strenuous activity for 3-4 weeks. Mild discomfort is normal and managed with medication.

Osseointegration
Over 3-6 months, bone fuses with the titanium implant, making it incredibly strong and stable – stronger than natural tooth roots!

Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?

Most people are good candidates for implants, but we need to evaluate several factors:

  • Good health: You don’t need high-quality health – most common conditions are manageable
  • Adequate jawbone: If insufficient, bone grafting can build up the area
  • Non-smoker or willing to quit: Smoking reduces implant success rates significantly
  • Good oral hygiene: Implants require daily brushing and flossing like natural teeth
  • Realistic expectations: Implants restore function and appearance but require commitment to care
